Fostering at MCHA

Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster parent for the Monroe County Humane Association! Fostering is a rewarding and vital role that not only helps provide care and love to animals in need but also directly supports The E. Susan Bartlett Crisis Housing Program. This program serves as a beacon of hope for individuals and families in immediate crisis offering free or low-cost support. Whether individuals are fleeing domestic abuse, grappling with housing instability, or facing unforeseen medical emergencies, our program provides essential assistance precisely when it’s needed most. By opening your home and heart to a foster animal, you are giving them the chance at staying with their forever home.

As a foster parent, you will be responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for your foster animal, and basic care such as feeding, grooming, and socialization. You will also work closely with our Crisis Housing Center Team, which collaborates with local law enforcement agencies, domestic violence shelters, social workers, and community shelters to ensure that your foster animal receives any necessary medical attention and behavior support.

Fostering is a temporary commitment, typically ranging from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the needs of the animal. During this time, MCHA will provide you with all the support and resources you need to successfully care for your foster animal. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of animals in our community while also contributing to a comprehensive and supportive network for those in crisis.

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please complete our online application, and a member of our team will be in touch with you soon to talk about next steps. Thank you for considering this rewarding opportunity!
