If you’re looking for an effective way to support Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA), consider making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). A QCD is a powerful giving option that can provide financial benefits while supporting our mission to help animals and families in need.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?
A QCD is a tax-free donation that allows you to contribute directly from your IRA to a qualified charity, such as MCHA. Here’s how it works:
Age Requirement: You must be 70½ or older to make a QCD.
Tax-Free Donation: A QCD is excluded from your taxable income, allowing you to avoid taxes on the amount donated. Although you can’t deduct a QCD as a charitable contribution, the reduction in taxable income can offer significant savings.
Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs): A QCD can count toward your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which you must begin taking from your IRA starting at age 73 (for those born after June 30, 1949). By making a QCD, you can satisfy part or all of your RMD while supporting MCHA.
Making a QCD to MCHA is a simple and impactful way to reduce your tax burden while contributing to a cause you care about. Reach out to your financial advisor to learn more about how a QCD could benefit you and your specific tax situation. If you have questions or need assistance with the process, feel free to contact us at mcha@monroehumane.org.
Thank you for considering this thoughtful way to support our work in the community!
